Let's start with the obvious question: was it worth the wait? For anyone who has spent the last several years on a PSR-SX600, the SX620 keeps everything that made that keyboard a dependable workhorse — 61 keys, over a thousand Voices, hundreds of Styles, full auto-accompaniment — and then adds the pieces that were conspicuously missing.
The headline change is Bluetooth Audio. Stream backing tracks or reference songs straight from your phone and play along, no cables, no adapter. For home players and worship musicians who practice to tracks, this alone removes a daily annoyance. Yamaha also carried down the Chord Looper from the bigger SX models: capture a chord progression once, loop it, and free your left hand for melody, fills, or a full piano part.
What's actually new
Redesigned panel + joystick
Controls are now centrally located and within easy reach as you play. The old pitch and modulation wheels give way to a single assignable joystick, plus two Live Control knobs for real-time tone, effects and Style tweaks.
Rebuilt speaker system
A newly developed cabinet with an Internal BassPort and front-facing bass reflex design delivers deeper, tighter low end than the compact body suggests — a real step up for practicing and performing without external speakers.
Bluetooth Audio + Punchy Line Out
Wireless playback for play-along and jamming, plus upgraded output circuitry that sends a clearer, more powerful signal to a PA or external speakers when you gig.
More sounds, and room to grow
1,002 Voices and 450 Styles out of the box — including Super Articulation (S.Art!) Voices — plus the new Expansion Explorer app to search, preview and install Voice & Style packs from your phone or computer.
The redesigned panel puts the joystick and Live Control knobs front and centre.
SX600 → SX620: what changed

At home or on stage — Bluetooth play-along and a rebuilt speaker system make it gig-ready out of the box.
Frequently asked
Should I upgrade from my SX600?
If you rely on play-along tracks, want the Chord Looper, or find the SX600's wheels limiting, yes — the workflow gains are real and daily. If you mostly play preset Styles and never missed Bluetooth, the SX600 still does that job. The SX620 is an evolution, not a reinvention.
Does it have a touchscreen?
No. It keeps the 4.3" colour TFT display and physical controls of the SX600. The touchscreen remains a feature of the higher SX720 / SX920 models.
Can I add more Voices and Styles?
Yes. It's compatible with Yamaha Voice & Style Expansion Packs, managed through the new Expansion Explorer app on iOS, Android, Windows and Mac. You can also convert standard MIDI files into playable Styles with MIDI Song to Style.
