Karnival Citra Seni Mutiara 2026 Celebrates Young Artistic Talent in Penang

The Karnival Citra Seni Mutiara 2026, a state-level arts carnival in Penang, was held from 11 to 13 June 2026 at IPG Kampus Tuanku Bainun, Bukit Mertajam.

The three-day event brought together primary and secondary school students, teachers, judges and education representatives for a celebration of performing arts, creativity and Malaysian culture.

Organised under the Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Pulau Pinang, the carnival provided students with a formal platform to compete, perform and demonstrate their talents before judges and live audiences.

State-Level Student Arts Competitions

The main highlight of Karnival Citra Seni Mutiara 2026 was its wide variety of student arts competitions.

The programme included:

  • Traditional duo dance for primary schools
  • Creative ethnic and folk dance for secondary schools
  • Irama Malaysia dance for primary schools
  • Traditional rampai dance for secondary schools
  • Solo and duo singing for primary and secondary schools
  • Theatre performances for primary and secondary schools
  • Monologue competition for secondary schools
  • Visual arts for primary and secondary schools
  • Short-film competition for primary and secondary schools

The different categories allowed students to demonstrate their abilities in music, dance, theatre, storytelling, filmmaking and visual expression.

Celebrating Malaysian Culture Through Performance

Many performances featured traditional costumes, music, movement and cultural themes representing Malaysia’s diverse artistic heritage.

Students presented carefully prepared dance routines, vocal performances and theatrical productions while developing their stage presence, teamwork and confidence.

The carnival also encouraged participants to explore creativity through contemporary presentations, short films and visual arts while maintaining a connection to local culture and identity.

Solo and Duo Singing Competitions

The solo and duo singing categories were held across multiple stages of the carnival.

Primary and secondary school participants first competed in the semifinal rounds before selected performers progressed to the finals on 12 June.

These performances gave young singers an opportunity to demonstrate their vocal technique, musical interpretation and confidence in front of the judging panel and audience.

Theatre, Monologue and Short-Film Presentations

The theatre and monologue categories allowed students to express ideas through acting, character development and storytelling.

Primary and secondary school theatre performances were held during the carnival, while secondary school students also participated in a dedicated monologue competition.

The final day included visual arts and short-film competitions for both primary and secondary schools, expanding the festival beyond live stage performances and providing more opportunities for creative participation.

Closing Ceremony and Prize Presentation

Karnival Citra Seni Mutiara 2026 concluded on 13 June with an official closing ceremony and prize presentation.

Awards were presented to recognise outstanding performances and creative achievements across the different competition categories.

The ceremony celebrated not only the winners but also the commitment of every student, teacher and school involved in preparing for the state-level event.
